Micro Wedding at Ashley Castle is absolutely stunning! We had the incredible honor of photographing Karan and Evan’s intimate 100-guest wedding at Ashley Castle in Chandler, Arizona. Just to clarify, a 100 guest South Asian wedding is a micro wedding by Indian standards.
After 16 years of photographing South Asian and multicultural weddings, we found Ashley Castle to be a great Italian inspired venue that feels like a world away.
What made their day truly special was the seamless blend of Punjabi cultural traditions with American wedding elements – all within a non-religious ceremony that honored their heritage while reflecting their personal values. From getting ready at a friend’s house to the bottle boys finale, every moment was thoughtfully planned.
In this post, I’ll share the complete timeline of their wedding day, insights into working with Ashley Castle’s exceptional team, how Punjabi cultural moments were incorporated, and why this venue deserves its glowing reputation.
Ashley Castle can accommodate up to 300 guests, but there’s something magical about how a 100 guest micro wedding at Ashley Castle. Karan and Evan’s celebration felt both intimate and spacious – never crowded, always elegant.
The venue’s architecture creates a fairytale atmosphere from the moment you arrive. The back garden area, with it’s stunning desert scenery, provides the perfect backdrop for golden hour portraits. We captured gorgeous couple photos with the warmth of the January sunset creating that dreamy, romantic glow.
Karan and Evan were very impressed with the staff and ease of planning their micro wedding at Ashley Castle.
Here is what the bride had to say:
“We had our wedding at Ashley Castle a little over two weeks ago, and the venue is absolutely beautiful. The staff were friendly and easy to work with. The pricing was fair and transparent which helps brides and grooms hone in on wedding venues during the planning process. Venues that have all inclusive options making planning a lot easier.
Leading up to the wedding, I was told our day-of coordinator would be Lindsay, but at the rehearsal we learned she doesn’t work Sundays and that the owner would be stepping in instead. I do wish we had done a few more run-throughs during the rehearsal so everyone felt more prepared for the wedding day.
Overall, the wedding was amazing and we had a wonderful time. A special shout-out to Lori, the florist, for making four stunning flower crowns, and to the catering staff—who even boxed up our leftover cake and cupcakes for us at the end of the night.”
What made Karan and Evan’s wedding so special was how they created a completely secular ceremony while still honoring Karan’s Punjabi heritage. This balance is something many multicultural couples aspire to but struggle to execute. They proved it’s absolutely possible—and Ashley Castle’s flexible team made it seamless.
Rather than including religious elements in their ceremony, they scheduled cultural moments separately. The churiyan ceremony (the traditional bangle ritual with Karan’s parents and nieces) and the dupatta blessing took place in the bridal suite before the ceremony. This gave these meaningful traditions the time and attention they deserved while keeping the ceremony itself non-religious.
The reception followed a classic American wedding structure—grand entrances, first dance, father-daughter dance, speeches, dinner—but incorporated cultural touches like Karan’s dance performance at 8:15 PM. This performance was a celebration of her heritage and brought incredible energy to the reception.
For the couple, choosing a micro wedding at Ashley Castle was strategic. They wanted a venue that could accommodate their 100 guests comfortably, provide professional coordination so they could focus on family time, and be flexible enough to support their vision of blending traditions. The venue delivered on all counts.
One particularly personal touch: Karan chose to get ready at her maid of honor’s home rather than at the venue. This gave her those quiet, intimate moments with close friends before the celebration began. We started photography there at noon, capturing the relaxed, genuine interactions that make for the most meaningful portraits. By 12:50, we arrived at Ashley Castle, where the onsite wedding coordinator and venue staff already had everything set up perfectly.

One of the most common questions I receive is: “How should we structure our micro wedding at Ashley Castle timeline?” Karan and Evan’s schedule is an excellent template for intimate 100-guest celebrations. Here’s how their 10-hour photography coverage unfolded, with insights into why each segment was timed the way it was.
12:00 PM: Bride arrived at her Maid of Honor’s home, where bride would get ready with her closest friends. The atmosphere was relaxed and joyful—exactly what you want before a big celebration. These getting-ready moments are some of my favorite to photograph because they’re genuine and unposed.
12:50 PM: The bridal party arrived at Ashley Castle. The travel time from Maid of Honor’s house was factored into our timeline, ensuring they weren’t rushed. The onsite wedding coordinator had already set up the welcome table and reception décor, so the venue was ready for the couple.
1:00-1:30 PM: Bridal suite portrait session. This 30-minute window gave photo and video time for detail shots (the dress, shoes, jewelry, invitation suite) and beautiful portraits of Karan in the suite. The natural light in Ashley Castle’s bridal suite is excellent, making for soft, flattering photographs.

This 90-minute session is where Karan and Evan’s timeline really shines. By dedicating substantial time to their first look and couple portraits before guests arrived, they eliminated the stress of feeling rushed and created space for genuine connection.
We started with their first look—that private moment when they saw each other for the first time. The emotion was palpable, and having this happen away from guests allowed them to truly be present with each other.

Then we moved through Ashley Castle’s gorgeous photo locations. The back garden with its desert scenery backdrop was perfect for romantic, natural portraits. The January weather in Chandler was ideal—warm but not hot, with beautiful light. We captured portraits against the castle architecture, in the garden, and with the desert landscape behind them.
The benefit of this extended portrait time? Zero stress. We weren’t watching the clock or worrying about keeping guests waiting. We could be creative, try different locations, and let moments unfold naturally.
3:00-4:00 PM: Family portrait time. We worked through 18 different groupings in one hour—a pace that’s efficient but never feels rushed when you have a clear shot list and designated shot list holders (Coordinator and the photographer helped coordinate family members).
The photos included the bride and groom with these groupings:
• Both sets of parents
• The bride’s parents, then groom’s parents separately
• Each sibling and their families
• All their nieces and nephews
• Traditional portraits: bride with her parents, groom with his parents
• Full immediate family group photos

We also captured exterior décor photos and some detail shots of the cake from Piece of Cake during this window.
4:00-4:30 PM: Cultural moments in the bridal suite. This is where Karan and Evan’s timeline really honored her heritage. The churiyan ceremony—where Karan’s parents and nieces helped her put on traditional bangles—was intimate and emotional. We documented every moment: the laughter, the gentle care as they slipped each bangle on, the quiet words shared between generations.
The dupatta blessing followed, with Karan’s parents and nieces draping and blessing the traditional scarf. These weren’t rushed photo opportunities—they were meaningful rituals given proper time and space.
Scheduling these cultural moments before the ceremony was brilliant. It meant they happened in a calm, private setting rather than being squeezed into a busy post-ceremony timeline. It also meant Karan was fully adorned with her churiyan and dupatta for the ceremony itself.
With cultural moments complete, we had a short buffer for final preparations. I captured interior décor shots, the ceremony setup, and any last details. This buffer time is crucial—it accounts for things running a few minutes long and ensures you’re not stressed right before guests arrive.
4:55 PM: Guests began taking their seats. This gave me time to capture wide shots of the ceremony space and décor before the processional began.
5:00-5:30 PM: The ceremony. Thirty minutes is perfect for an intimate, personalized ceremony—long enough to feel meaningful but not so long that guests lose focus. Karan and Evan’s non-religious ceremony included personal vows, readings from friends, and an exchange of rings.

Ashley Castle’s ceremony space is designed beautifully for 100 guests. Everyone had a great view, and the space never felt empty or crowded. I was able to capture wide shots showing all 100 guests, as well as intimate close-ups of the couple and their reactions.

An extended 90-minute cocktail hour is a gift to your guests and your photographer. Guests had plenty of time to enjoy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and conversation without feeling rushed into the reception. For photography, it meant I could capture candids of 100 people actually relaxing and having fun—not just standing in line at a bar.

During this time, I also stole Karan and Evan away for a few more portraits at their sweetheart table and captured some golden hour moments in the back garden. The desert scenery backdrop was absolutely stunning as the sun began to set.
DJ kept the reception moving smoothly:
7:00 PM: Grand entrances. The energy shifted as Karan and Evan entered the grand ballroom to cheers and applause.

7:15 PM: Cake cutting and champagne pour. Piece of Cake’s creation was both beautiful and delicious, as guests would soon discover.

7:30 PM: First dance. Karan and Evan’s first dance as a married couple was intimate and sweet, with all eyes on them in the center of the ballroom.
7:35 PM: Father-daughter dance. Always emotional, always meaningful.

7:40 PM: Speeches. Three five-minute speeches from family and friends—the perfect length to be heartfelt without losing the room’s attention.

8:15 PM: Karan’s dance performance. This was a highlight of the evening—a celebration of her cultural heritage that brought incredible energy to the reception. The guests loved it.
8:30 PM: Dinner service began. Ashley Castle’s buffet-style service with multiple options and dietary accommodations meant everyone found something they loved. During dinner, I shifted to lower-priority candids, giving the couple and guests time to relax and eat.
After dinner, the dance floor opened up. The DJ kept the energy high as guests celebrated into the evening. The grand ballroom’s space meant the dance floor never felt crowded, even with enthusiastic dancers.

10:00 PM: The finale. Bottle boys with strobe lights created an epic ending to the celebration. The energy was incredible, the photos dramatic and fun, and it provided the perfect high note to end our 10-hour coverage
I’m incredibly grateful when clients share their experience working with our studio. Here’s what Karan had to say about choosing Maha Studios for her Ashley Castle wedding:
“I’m just over a week married and incredibly excited to see our official wedding album! When I was engaged and searching for an Arizona-based photographer, Maha Studios came highly recommended by my sister’s friend. I first reached out via Instagram and then spoke with owner Zainab, who was incredibly sweet. She thoroughly explained their process and even provided a list of trusted AZ vendors they’ve collaborated with—which is how I discovered my wonderful henna artist, Kalpana (MM Henna on IG).”
“On our wedding day, our photographer Maria was perfectly prepared and punctual. As an Indian bride, I often hear about potential delays, but I made my punctuality clear, and they adhered to our timeline flawlessly. Maria worked tirelessly throughout the entire day, even expertly managing guests when a receiving line formed at our reception.”
“I can’t wait to see our final photos and wholeheartedly recommend Maha Studios to any bride seeking exceptional wedding photography. Their pricing was also notably more competitive than many other photographers I encountered in Arizona.”
Personal recommendations carry weight, especially for something as important as wedding photography. When Karan’s sister’s friend recommended our studio, it started a conversation that led to her booking.
Our initial consultation, led by studio owner Zainab, covers everything couples need to know: our approach to wedding photography, what to expect on the wedding day, timeline recommendations, and our process from booking through final album delivery. We believe in transparency—no surprises, just clear communication about what we’ll deliver.
One service we offer that clients particularly appreciate is our vendor network. After 16 years photographing weddings, we’ve built relationships with exceptional vendors across multiple markets. For Karan, this meant discovering her henna artist Kalpana from MM Henna—a connection that added another beautiful cultural element to her wedding preparations.
Pricing matters, especially when planning a micro wedding at Ashley Castle with multiple cultural elements that might require additional services. Our rates are competitive because we understand the value of creating lasting memories without creating financial stress.
Maria, who photographed Karan and Evan’s wedding, exemplifies our studio’s approach: prepared, punctual, and professional.
Punctuality is particularly important for South Asian weddings, where timing can sometimes drift. When Karan emphasized that she wanted to stay on schedule, we listened. We arrived exactly when planned, worked efficiently through the timeline, and kept things moving without ever making anyone feel rushed.
Wedding photography is more than just pointing a camera. When a receiving line unexpectedly formed during the reception, Maria stepped in to manage guest flow, ensuring everyone got their moment with the couple while maintaining order. This kind of vendor coordination—knowing when to step in and help beyond just photography—makes the difference between a good wedding day and a great one.
Our 10-hour coverage for Karan and Evan meant we were there from getting ready at the Maid of Honor’s home through the wedding finale. This comprehensive approach means you don’t miss any moments—we’re present for the intimate preparations, the emotional ceremonies, the joyful celebrations, and the dramatic endings.
What defines our work after 16 years of photographing South Asian and multicultural weddings?
Cultural competency: We understand Punjabi traditions like churiyan and dupatta ceremonies. We know how to respectfully document these moments, why they matter, and how to position ourselves to capture emotion without being intrusive.
Timeline expertise: We’ve photographed enough weddings to know what works. Our timeline recommendations are based on real experience, not theory. When we suggest 90 minutes for portraits or scheduling cultural moments before the ceremony, it’s because we’ve seen these approaches succeed repeatedly.
Vendor relationships: Based in Chicago but photographing across the country, we’ve built networks in multiple markets. Need a henna artist in Arizona? A florist in California? A hair and makeup team in Texas? We can point you toward trusted professionals.
Destination wedding experience: Traveling from Chicago to photograph Karan and Evan’s Arizona wedding is something we do regularly. We know how to prepare for different lighting conditions, scout locations in advance, and coordinate with venue teams we haven’t worked with before.
Organizational skills: From detailed shot lists with 18 family groupings to coordinating with designated shot list holders to managing unexpected moments like receiving lines—we handle the logistics so you can focus on celebrating.
