The happy couple wore coordinating engagement Indian outfits for their special day. Since we couldn’t travel too far from Ashyana Banquets, we found a scenic park near the event venue for quick Chicago engagement photos.  As professional Chicago wedding photographers, finding a spot with good light is more important that the location.  An expert photographer can make a parking lot look glamorous because he or she knows how to pose a couple and use different lighting techniques.

Chicago Suburb Engagement Photo Tips and Tricks

1. Plan your Chicago Engagement Photos early in the morning or close to sunset.

The best natural light portraits are either in the morning or during golden hour.  In either scenario, the light is the most flattering and has a dreamy effect on the final images. The problem with midday is that the sun is very harsh and creates hard shadows under the eyes.  We can use lighting to offset weird shadows but during your engagement session, we prefer to spend less time fiddling around with lighting equipment and more time interacting with our clients to get a natural flow going with the photos.

2. Bring a bag to keep handy items close by.

I would highly recommend bringing a big tote bag along during the photo session.  You can use it to store your keys, wallet and other items you don’t want to carry on your person. Also,  keep useful items close by during your engagement session. These items include:

• Hand lotion
• Lip Balm
• Comb
• Hair spray
• Flip flops  (in case your feet start hurting from wearing heels)

3. Bring a little music to spice up the portrait session.

The engagement photo session is probably the first time you are taking professional couples portraits. One of the best ways to get a little more comfortable in front of the camera is to play some music off your phone or portable jukebox.  Singing and listening to your favorite tunes will get rid of any camera jitters and result in some great candid Chicago engagement photo moments.
