It’s January 16th 2017, and only 4 days left before Donald Trump is sworn in as president. Based on his divisive comments against minority, religious and immigrant groups, I feel anxious and uncertain about the type of Presidency Donald Trump will lead. Once he sits in that chair as commander in chief, will the gravity of this position make him realize that the scare and hate tactics that got him into office will not help him as president? Will he be a president for ALL Americans? Although the rational part of me says he will not, there is another side that is hopeful and has faith in my fellow Americans. I am hopeful that we as Americans will fight for the freedoms that this country has allotted us. I am hopeful that we as Americans will continue speaking our minds against injustice and continue the conversation of what it means to be an American.
So why am I lacing this engagement portrait blog post with political comments? Well, because looking back on Samar and Zayd’s engagement party reminded me of what an amazing country America is. Samar is half Mexican and Pakistani while Zayd is German and Syrian! Talk about melting pot of cultures!! This amazing couple and their families were brought together because of the beautiful country we live in. This is the AMERICA!!
The evening was filled with ice breakers, music, laughter and games. It was an evening where people of different faiths, cultures and backgrounds came together to celebrate Samar and Zayd. It was really amazing to see how a simple ice breaker could start new friendships and connections that did not exist before. This is how barriers and prejudices are shattered. This is how we can keep hope alive during the next 4 years…Communication..Learning to understand and know your neighbor.
By the end of the evening, I felt part of the family myself! Thank you Samar and Zayd for having Maha Studios be a part of your delightful soiree at Cantigny Park.
